Freedom Assembly began as a vision held by Pastor James Porostosky of Lakeshore Assembly of God in Mentor, OH. God had laid it upon Jim’s heart to take a measure of people and provisions from his own congregation and by faith begin to strategically and prayerfully plant churches in the northeast Ohio region. This kingdom first passion has resulted in two successful Assembly of God church plants in our area, Freedom Assembly being the second, launched in September 2005. We will forever remain thankful for Pastor Jim, his wife Lisa, and our Lakeshore Assembly family’s sacrifice, prayer and obedience to the Lord. They truly share in every blessing God has bestowed on us in these past 15 years.
We began holding services on September 11, 2005 at Sterling Morton Elementary in the school gymnasium. This was an especially formative time for us to draw closer to the Lord and one another. God developed things in our hearts that moved us from our own ideas and expectations to His. We couldn’t see where He was taking us at the time but trust and faith certainly developed a deeper meaning to each and every one of us.
In September of 2009 God blessed us with a store front location in the Painesville, OH area. This proved to be a place of tremendous opportunity and growth for us. We could see that God was affording a chance to minister to a much larger number of people and our congregation grew to point that we were quickly running out of space.
In October of 2016 God made another move that brought us even greater blessing. Pastor Fred Golding and his congregation at Living Waters Cathedral approached us with the offer to merge our two families together at our current location in Mentor, OH. Pastor Golding graciously accepted the role of Associate Pastor and Pastor Jason Tatterson took the Lead Pastor position. The merger was embraced by both churches and it has been nothing short of beautiful as God has knit our hearts together as one. Pastor Golding has since gone on to be with Jesus but we stand today on the years of faithfulness that he and his wife Edna poured into their ministry for over 40 years.
We can see so clearly how the hand of God has guided us and provided for us all along the way. We do not take lightly what He has invested in us and everyday our goal is to bring an eternal reward to the glory of His name.
